Hello everyone
My first bike was a Hyosung 650gt and I loved it but I got hurt while riding I am fine now but I gained some weight 300"ish" LBS 5'8". So I got rid of that bike and got a Honda Shadow 750 that I liked but I am finding out that when I am on the highway the bike does not have the power I thought and I feel like it is strung out at 65 I am thinking about a new bike and dont know what to get. It was recommended to me that I go with a Yamaha vstar 1300 or something in the 1300 category. That feels like a big jump to me and I didn't know if I should go with an 1100 or even a 900 I just don't want to feel like I am strung out if I do highway driving. I do live in a rural part of a state and it is like an hour highway to civilization.

The odds are your bike isn't strung out, you believe it's strung out. First test, get it up to speed, and then crank the throttle. Does it accelerate? Quickly? Fast enough? You may notice, I asked almost the same question, but, it's actually, does it accelerate, does it accelerate enough to be safe, does it generate adrenaline? If no to 1, you need more power, if 2 you are good, if not 3, well, there's always a Hyabusa.

I just made the trade-up that you are thinking about. My 750 c2 would run all day at 70 to 75 as long as I was on the freeway. My frustration was on secondary roads with real hills and corners. Then it was hard to accelerate enough to stay with bigger bikes in the group. After two years and 5k miles I traded up to a 1300 tourer and love it. I am 6', 220 lbs and the only difficulty I had was adjusting to the difference in gear ratios, and getting the downshift rpms just right. It just took a bit of time and practice. Good luck.

There are many things that you should have to consider in your mind when you are going to ride a bike. Also safety is very important for you and many things can be used for that.

nhjohn1 - Don't be afraid of a bigger bike. Just because you have all that power doesn't mean you have to use all of it all the time. I'm a small girl and my HD is a 1450. If you're a good rider, which I'm sure you are, then you should be able to handle it no problem. Riding with more power is all about being a smart rider!
Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!
