Hi all, can you please help me out?
I'm new to motorcycles and I decided to try being a mechanic on my bike (CB400 SF 2002) and I think I short circuited it! I simply opened the right handle bar and sprayed anti-corrosion spray, and obviously I overdid it. The bike started up fine the first time but a day later I switch the key on, all light come up fine and soon as I click the starter before the engine turns all lights go out and the bike just doesn't even light up any more!
Please tell me what the hell i did and how I can repair it. I can't take it to a mechanic now cause it won't start and the will charge me for transferring it if I ask them to take it. I don't have the money to do that now! Please help!
PS. while opening the handle bar thing I also broke off a plastic part that holds the fuel wires to the handle, but that seems not too expensive and hard to replace myself..it's the short circuit that I'm worried about.

Now first let me say that I am no expert. I am probably in the same camp as you (someone mechanically inclined who is starting into the world of motorcycle mechanics).
That siad ... I would suggest looking at the fuse box. If you aren't getting any lights at all then perhaps you blew a fuse. If that the case replacing would be your first step to getting lights back on.
Once that's done I would take a look to a look at where you sprayed the anicorrotion stuff see if there is any eroded wire shields. Sometimes chemicals like that can hurt wire shielding.
If the fuse is gone it will at least tell you where the problem is.
there is my 2 cents. Hope that helps.
