Advice needed please

Bike: Triumph America 2007 model 865cc carbed

Problem:  The bike never starts first time. Upon pushing the button, the engine turns but doesn't fire.  I try again after about 3 seconds and it fires OK after a fair bit of turning. Thereafter it runs OK. However, it pisses me off that a bike only 10 months old has never started first time.

The warranty should cover that.

It sounds like your enrichener (choke) isn't working at all. Have you checked the mechanical connections for the enrichener control? I can't get any more specific than that, since I've never even looked closely at a Triumph.

If the choke isn't working well why does it rev up automatically after the second try when it starts OK?  The manufacturer is saying that it is just me that does not know how to start the bike (How's that for customer care?)

I also live in a country where customer care is more spoken about than practised, so that is no solution for me.

I was thinking about changing the carb to injectors. Do you think it is possible and would it cost me €1 million?

Actually,
you are probably hitting a couple of problems:
1) I'm guessing you have a classic on/off/reserve switch. This means when it sits for a while, it's going to take some time to get the gas thru the carb again. To test, turn it on, and don't start right away. Put on your gear, helmet, gloves, and see if that corrects it.
2) Most bikes are notoriously lean at idle. Get the pilot circuit properly adjusted (for performance, not emissions).
3) if 2 makes a difference, use the motorcyclecruiser tech tips to run thru the whole range of jets on the bike...same procedure as they needed to do in step 2.

I think you'll find that one of the 2 will give you what you're looking for.

I haven't tried that one yet and will certainly try it out when the rain stops!

Thanks. I hope it will work and I will keep you updated on the outcome.  Incidentally, I do have the on/off.reserve switch.

No, I do understand, I ride in the rain when I have to, not because I go looking for it.

I thought about having you check the hose past the valve, but, the bike's only 2 years old so, it should be fine.
