I have a 2003 Suzuki Savage 650. I changed the oil several month ago and used Mobile 5000 10W-40, an oil meeting the Owners Manual spec for viscosity and API service classification SG. The bike had 4400 mile. I also changed the spk plg, air filter, and oil filter using good parts. After about 300 miles the bike has developed a shifting problem. It sometimes does not want to shift into 2nd gear or 5th gear. Oil level is OK. Could this be the result of the Mobile 5000 oil? Suzuki recommends their Suzuki Performance 4 oil which I'm sure costs $20 a qt or liter. My first recourse is to change the oil. Any suggestions?

While it is certainly possible that you have found an oil that has some characteristic that your bike's transmission doesn't like, when the shifting changes due to the oil properties, it usually happens immediately or after about 1,000 miles. On a bike that shifts fine right after the oil change, but develops problems before the oil has 1,000 miles on it, I'd start looking at shift linkages first.

Joe; I did replace the clutch cable several months ago also. Thought I had it adjusted properly. I will check that also. Thanks.
