What channel does everyone monitor, like if you want to say Hi as you pass by.
shouldn't some channel be common?

Does anybody really use CB radios anymore?  Nobody I know.  I used to, but haven't in probably 25 years.  Back then Channel 19 was where everybody sat, and was traditionally the truckers channel.  After you made contact, if you expected to be in a lengthy conversation after making the contact you'd move to another channel, maybe a sideband channel, returning to the base channel later.

Alternatively, if you had a home base channel you operated from, your contacts would know which channel that was and call you on it.  Good luck, but I suspect you may be at least 20 years too late.

Some small groups have gone to FRS, but, I suspect that on a long trip, CB is still the way to go. Older groups settled in on CB a long time ago, and aren't in a rush to change.

A lot of truckers still listen to ch 19, and in some areas police still monitor ch 9.

FRS is limited to about 2-3 mi. CB is somewhat more, and the truckers are more likely to report an incident.
Besides, if they know you're there (not by using loud pipes), and you're pleasant, you're more likely to be looked out for.
