Oil seal behind stator-rotor assembly?

I have a 83 V65 magna ond have been having some charghing problems. When i took the side case off to get to the rotor assembly there was about two or three ounces of oil in the case. My question is shouldn't this case be dry inside and is there an oil seal behind the stator that can be changed without disassembly of the whole engine. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IF ANYONE KNOWS.
