Bought 2006 with 3600 miles on it last year. Prev. Owner had loud pipes and I went back to original. Noticed a clacking sound and thought it was exhaust leak. Tried to adjust and noise wouldn't go away. Was there mostly when you throttled up or down. Took it to many places. It is not valve adjustment. One dealer said it was cam shaft and I told him it would make the sound all the time if was that. Another told me he needed to tear it down right then so it didn't tear the engine up. Have put 10,000 miles more on bike including trip from Texas to Calif. I now have 14,000 on the bike and the noise has not changed. One guy said if it hasn't changed don't worry about it. Another dealer said if I didn't have the windshield on the bike I wouldn't hear it. Just recently I put on my winter helmet with a face shield on it and I noticed the noise almost disapeared. Has anyone experienced this problem on a V Star before?

I also own a 2006 Vstar 1100 Silverado and recently noticed something similar to yours. Sure theres the usual value chatter that I've been told is "normal" for this bike, but I've noticed that it really clacks when the engine has been worked or it's hot. I've no idea what it is eaither, but don't want to waste my money by taking it to the dealer as like you say, they will want to take it apart. It seems to ride fine. There's just that noise that can be anoying to me.
Does yours continue to be the same or have you investiagted it further?

Hello, I think the noise is normal. I have a 99 V star 1100. It makes more noise when hot.I have been working on air cooled VW engines for 35 years. They designed the engine to have more valve clearance when the engine gets hotter so you will never burn the valves. I am asuming that Yamaha did the same type of designing. Jim

Hey Snowbugca, thank for the assurance as I am off on a 1000ks trip on Friday. No only if I could get some assurance from the weather man...lol.
