New lady here, Hello!

Just picked up an 82 Yamaha Virago 750 for my birthday yesterday, so I figured I'd check this out and see if I could get some tips on customizing.

Looks like a great place for like-minded riders to hang out and talk cruisers.  

Don't own one myself, but, I figured I should at least say hello.
There are places like Scootworks.com that will do anything you want (as long as you have the money). Check out some of their project bikes. Some are very impressive.
Looking at the pics may give you some ideas.

Note, don't work for them, and have only bought a couple parts from them over the years, but they have a really nice list of project bikes, all in 1 place.  

Hello, just joined the forum and like you I just bought a 1985 Virago XV1000 for my up comming birthday in August when I will be 50  

Helllewwwww TwinTurbos and Iron rider...I have a '99 V Star 1100 (the successor to your Viragos). Check out Cruiser Customizing (cruisercustomizing.com) for some ideas.

Also, another site is vstar1100.com, which is everything 1100 related, but might go back to your bikes since the 1100 evolved from the Virago. The site has lots of pictures of people's bikes and can surely spark some ideas for you.

Also, talk to your local bike shop about ideas. I know there's a family-owned shop I go to where they're always happy to talk anything bikes. Good luck!
