I heard that Roan Mountain, TN is a sweet place to go for a ride. It runs through some thick parts of the appalachian mountains so the view is beautiful. The nearby town is named after the mountain.

Try the tail of the dragon on the NC GA border. 318 curves in 12 miles up and down the mtn. rt 129 back into Robbinsville NC almost as great.

Roan Mt is a great area to ride. If you're coming south to NC, be sure to take advantage of NC-80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. NC-80 is every bit as twisty and intense as the Dragon and a lot less traveled. If you really like curvy roads, I also recommend NC-9 from Old Fort to Lake Lure.
