I'm thinking about buying one of these as my first bike and i was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad knowledge or experiences of this bike or similar years.  Thanks.

I bought a 85 shadow vt750c as my first bike last summer, it was amazingly well cared for. 30,000 miles
and has been a really great bike.  Getting 38-42 Mpg, not sure about yours but the high compression on this engine demands premium gas... and unlike the new shadows they claim this thing is 68hp!? not bad for a 750cc, the new ones are only 45hp.
So I love it and it easily keeps up with my buddy on his 1100.

The v45 Magna is very nice (smooth and fast). However all the v45 Magna 1st generation suffers from the oil cam problem so make sure to apply the oil mod (see Magna Owners of Texas).
