i am in good old new york state. more and more the cops are checking pipes. i went through a ck point on a ride one day and i made it (new road king) but i asked why they arnt pulling trucks over with there 6" chrome stacks altered exhaust/loud dcb.that truck is louder than my other bike his ans. because we arnt. ok have a good day. this is harrasment twards bike riders they are singling us out if we have to follow the rules so should everybody. i have to ride on a busy highway sometimes on my roadking stock exhaust i get cut off all the time. when i ride my modified sporty it never happens. so ware does the EPA get off saying loud pipes dont save lives. we cant just sit back and let them control us. what do you think? any ideas what we can do?

Well, let's start with the facts: Loud pipes don't save lives (lot of actual studies support this). We get anecdotal stories to support the loud pipe, so, here's one on the other side. I am alive because I don't have loud pipes. I came up on a blind hard left, and I heard the squeal of the brakes of the dump truck. I grabbed a handfull, and a footfull, and swung to the outside. Two seconds later, a dump truck came around, the bend, mostly in my lane. If I had loud pipes, I'd be a part of the grill of the dump truck. He was doing about 30, and I was doing 30 the other way... do the math.
Also, when I'm riding, I depend on hearing trucks as they come up from behind. I get a ^&&** pipe man in front of me, and I've just lost my 1st line of defense of the guy coming up behind me. I can't hear the trucks unless I slow down, and let the PIPES get at least a quarter mile in front of me. Preferably half a mile.
As far as "trucks", it's a minor problem. The culture hasn't told them they get more power with loud pipes. Besides, most truck stacks point up. Pigeons and eagles have a lousy lobby. Bike pipes point outwards. Homeowners have a better lobby.

I do not know why anyone would even want a loud motorcycle! I'm an old fart and a former FIM racer from 30 years ago, Take my word racing bikes in those days are loud. Now after 25 years of none riding I can't tell you how much I enjoy riding again. My bike cruises along with the stock mufflers letting me hear all that goes on around me. Half the fun of biking. Try it you will like it. It makes outher users of the road like me much better, I get lots of smiles.
