Hello, I like many of the other recent posts, am purchasing a bike after not riding for a few years. I have narrowed my search down to 3 bikes based on Looks and displacement. I am 6'5" and 250lbs, My wife is 5'3" 150lbs (don't let here know I shared that). Now I need some good imput from some folks that have put some miles on these machines. Here is what I have been told so far, the VN2000 is top heavy, has had issues with the fuel injection and is belt driven (assuming the belt is a draw back). Next the M109R is not relaiable (don't know why), and Everyone has a VTX. Any and all input would be appreciated.

i own a vn2000, so far its been a great bike, no problems with the fuel injection, the belt or anything else on it, i get 46 mpg, the wife likes it, we have cruised from orlando to south fl, no problems, i even buldosered over a deer with slight damage to bike, but very strong did not go down. great bike. good luck, drive safe.    Dan

vn2000 also has a rider adjustable rear shock to acomodate driver weight and ride comfort.

Fusionax how do you manage to get 46 out of your 2000 i got a 2007 vn 20000 classic LT. an only get about 36 t0 37 out of it

I own a 2002 VTX 1800 with 34000 miles. It has been 100% reliable. I have installed a 240 rear tire, 21" front, etc. etc. I've left the engine and drive train all stock. I also purchased a Suzuki M109R last September and now have 3200 miles on it. My impressions of the Suzuki so far is very good reliability and quality. It's actually quite a bit better than I had expected. I purchased the M109 because of it's exceptional performance but have also been very pleased with it's handling as well. The long swingarm, fat tire and mono shock provide excellant handling. Hello,

I'm from Spain and at this moment I have a Shadow VT 750 ACE Deluxe and I want to change to a bigest cruiser.

I want to know if VTX 1800R is better than the new model of VN 2000 because all I heard is that honda engines are better, clean sound, better chrome parts, etc and I can't decide between one of them. People told me VN2000 is more heavier and difficult to drive because of design...

Can you help me?

i put 42 psi front and back, quickshift, avoid taking off too fast, use castrol synthetic oil 10-40, k&n air filter. on the highway, i try to keep it at peak torque, which is at 3000 rpm, like 5th gear 80mph 3000 rpm.

A little over a week ago I picked up another great cruiser you may want to take a test ride on. It's a Triumph Rocket 3. This bike wins hands down for power and torque. The only problem is very few custom parts are available other than the extensive selection from Triumph.



Triumph makes pretty much anything most people will want but it's nice to have a selection from as many manufacturers as possible. That's where the Honda VTX is the clear winner! The power and handling of the Triumph is highly addictive however. The Suzuki has a little less power but it's also a terrific handling bike too.

Just a quick note to reply to your post.  I have a VTX 1800 and it hauls my ass as well as my wife's, with know problems.  Me 5'11" 240, my old lady not so much.  I havent seen many 1800's around New England...but 1300's are pretty popular.  Depending if I'm riding with the boys or just out for a ride my mileage ranges between 36-42 mpg.  Power is amazing, handles great, looks good too!  I have an 05 with just over 6500 miles on it.  There are lots of extra goodies to put on this thing so look around.  Good bike to have.  I recommend it highly.  Good luck.

I am a bit surprised the Star Roadline or Stratoliner are not in this equation.  Take one ride on a Roadliner and you will have answered your question as to which bike to buy.  Awesome torque, great reliabilty, and it just looks good!

I purchased a 2004 Vulcan 2000 that was dropped but very little damage to the bike.
Now I love the Bike, it has enough power to pull my butt around and I am not a small person. I am 6’8” tall and only about 380 lbs. I also gave a very good friend of mine a ride, he was never on a bike and wanted to ride *** So, took him for a run. I hit a couple places where we stopped on a very steep hill; this bike pulled us up and away with little to no effort what so ever. Mileage is great, around 46 miles to the Gallon.
I am slowly upgrading the bike, such as bags, and soon to have cruising lights.
Going to add on a towing bar as well, but just had to say, I really enjoy this Bike and has lots of power as is, so I can only imagine if I place a Commander III unit with ram air system and pipes. If you have any questions, be happy to answer them.

+1 on the Triumph.  The bikes mentioned here can't hold a candle to the Rocket for torque, comfort, and handling.  It's a beast of a bike that I can throw around a parking almost as easily as my Intruder 1400.  One test ride and you'll be sold.

I ride an M109R and have never been more pleased with a motorcycle.  I've not had a bit of problems with it and as anyone who knows me will tell you, I ride the bike hard.  I don't pretend that I'm on a sport bike, but I definitely don't ride like a grandpa either.

I don't know much about the VN2K, but I've ridden the M109R & The VTX1800F and have ridden with a Triumph Rocket III.
The M109R will outperform the VTX, but it won't be NEARLY as comfy.  The Rocket III will outperform both, but doesn't seem to like cornering as much as my M109R does.
Honestly, I really like the VTX1800 series.  It just wasn't quite the bike for me.  I like to blast through the mountains...
