I have a 1997 shadow 1100 ace and I'm in the market for saddlebags, does anyone have a size suggestion or bracket suggestion of a bag, or how to mount them for this bike. Is leather or nylon better. I plan on just using them when I take a trip and remove them when I get back. Thanks

Leather is fine for fair weather riders, but it only takes about 3 days of being wet, before the mold starts growing. It's darn near impossible to find the time to dry out your leather when you're traveling.
I have a set of River Road bags. They're being used on the third bike, so far. They're medium sized, but expand out to much larger when necessary.
If you get throw over bags with adjustable straps, no brackets are necessary. Adjust the straps so the top of the bags is right at the same height as the top of the seat they are thrown over. Then the seat and fender hold the bags out away from everything.
regards, Joe

May I respectfully suggest checking out our wide variety of saddlebags. We have throw over, mounted (quick) and different sizes and styles. See www.saddlemen.com for details. And a wide variety of reasonable pricing.
