Howdy all -
I recently purchased a new '07 Honda VTX 1300 R and am wondering if I should consider upgrading the suspension since I am a big guy...6'3" and 340lbs.  The stock suspension can be adjusted for larger loads, but I'm thinking I might need to purchase an after market system.  Maybe not.  Any suggestions for a newbie?  Thanks

If you ride alone, just adjust the preload to get the ride height centered with that load on it. You'll find the bike rides smoother when it's loaded to the upper third of it's capacity than it does with a lightweight rider on it. If it doesn't satisfy you after a few thousand miles of riding that way, then it might be time to think of aftermarket suspension mods.

regards,
Joe

Two words.  Progressive Suspension.  440 IAS (with heavy duty springs) in the rear and progressive rate fork springs.  The stock springs are wayyyyyy too soft for your weight.  Also the 440's have superior damping which will help control the bike much better.  The fork springs (with their progressive rate) get stiffer the more they compress.  Trust me, you cannot adjust the stock preload settings to handle your weight.
