A guy I know from another magazine tells me that Motorcycle Cruiser no longer has any staff editors. The people who write for it, Mark Zimmerman being the best, are all just contributors who do it part time.

That explains a lot.

Just a thought.

If the other mag was being thumped in sales  by Cruiser, it would make sense to attack them in some manner.

Not saying which is correct. If there's full time staff at MC, there should be a comment soon.

I hear a lot of the motorcycle magazines are having financial problems, and Motorcycle Cruiser could easily be one of them. I am seeing some of the magazines set up web sites and bulletin boards on line like http://www.aimag.com and http://www.roadbikemag.com

Billyb is Billy Bartel and he's the editor.  Good guy, I've been to Sturgis with him.

Who's handling the forum?  There are some question out there (including mine) concerning the forum that have yet to be answered.

Also, the link on the site for THIS MONTH pulls up the October 2008 issue - that's 7 month old.

Several mags are going down. More and more people are just going online. Of course there are still some stories that appear in mags that are not online just yet, but the field is definitely shrinking.

InterLink, a mag publisher, Motor Trend etc, is filing chapter 11.

I hope the shift to E-mags and whatever works out for everyone. I can imagine how hard it must be right now to produce a paper rag only to have everything in it be old news by the time it is going to print. I stopped all my mag subs a while back. It was a shock to the system at first, but I am getting used to it. The reading room breaks are lots shorter now.

It explains the general lack of knowledge by the new editor..In the May issue Musclebike comparo he states most of the big V8's had horsepower in the 100's just like these bikes..Your bread and butter musclecar v8 in the 400ci range were usually rated at 300-375hp. Most put out a real world 250-320at the wheels. The optional engines were capable of up to 100 more real net horsepower.

Another gripe I have with him is how he makes the original Vmax sound like an ill running and handling beast citing poor low speed carburetion. My 92 ran perfect and pulled like mad from any engine speed although it liked to be above 3000 in the taller gears.

All the popular bike rags have become glorified ad space with very little information any more..No more detailed spec charts sporadic dyno and drag strip numbers and generally poor writing..Zimmerman and few others being the exceptions.

Sad.
