So How did it work out? I have a 99 1500 Vulcan...put Straight Shots on it...the damn thing acts like it is starved for fuel when starting cold. Like the choke isn't quite getting there. I guess what I am looking for is for someone to say...Oh yea..you gotta re-jet that. I don't want to screw it up. Once I get it running and warm it goes just right. Do you know of a site...or a book... that actually explains re-jetting a Vulcan? like I said, I don't want to screw it up...but I want to do it myself.

i would think a rejetting is called for. what do your spark plugs look like? that's a good indicator. plus i wouldn't recommend running with some sort of baffles for the back pressure.
if the house is a rocking don't bother knocking, just come on in...SRV

Try this, and start at the beginning, since each of the smaller jets are still running as you go up. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/tech/motorcycle_jet_kits_carburetion/index.html
Once you get the bottom sorted out, then, decide if you want a larger main. I did the re-jetting after getting a K&N/ Thunder air, but, because I didn't replace the exhaust at the same time as the intake, I probably could have gone with a smaller main jet(but still larger than stock).
