I'm taking my MSG course on October 21st. I'm a petite female so I'm wondering if this bike will be low enough for me. If my inseam is 27.7 inches and the seat height is 27", is that low enough? The dealership by my house won't have them in stock until the end of september so I can't go sit on one. Does anyone know a person that was barely tall enough for their bike seat? Did they have any problems with it?

Also... This is the part I want to know about the most. If I already put down a deposit for my bike, is there any way I can have them hold it for me until I finish my MSG course? (which will be almost a month after the bikes become available.) I don't know how quickly smaller bikes go off the sales floor. I just don't want them to run out.

What do you guys think of this bike as a starter bike?  

I purchased the 2008 vstar 250 in June and have 1600 miles on it so far. GREAT bike. Averaging 83 MPG with my work commute, all local roads.

It was difficult to find one. The dealer had one in stock, but it was sold when I went back about a week later. I had to travel about an hour to get one.

Not only a great starter bike, but one of the best for gas mileage too. The V Twin engine looks and sounds really good. The chain drive is higher maintenance, but comes with the territory on the smaller bikes.

Yes, your inseam is shorter than your leg, and at least 3 inches shorter than the height at which you can get the balls of your feet firmly to the ground. I have a 27 inch inseam and I don't worry about seat heights until they get over 30 inches. You can expect to be able to get your heels firmly to the ground, even barefooted :-)

If your dealer agrees to that, then yes. If your dealer doesn't agree to that, then no. Have you talked to the dealer about that detail, yet? You have to talk to them about the details, before they will know what you want of them. If they're that hard to keep on the showroom floor, the dealer may be delighted at the chance to have one to show people, that's already sold.

I ran into that back in 1981, when I ordered a new Sturgis while I was overseas. The dealer had people coming into his shop from several states away for six months, just to see it and sit on it, because with their limited availability, no one else could get one to display.

I'm an old motocross racer who can't race no more- bought a 2008 Vstar 250 because it felt light and nimble like my my race bikes- rode it 600 miles until I felt comfortable with a street bike- then bought a Vstar 1300. That 250 is a great little bike to learn on. Would like to sell it now if anyone is interested.
