If you're looking for an 1100 cc bike there are only 2 to look at. Honda and Yamaha. Take a look at a Honda Sabre 1100 or a Yamaha V Star 1100 Custom. They are the style you're looking for.

I also took a (35 year) break from riding. Took the motorcycle course using 250cc and purchased a used 2003 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC with performance upgrades completed. $10G less than an equivalent Harley of the same year. It has lots of power for two here in the mountains. Good luck.

joe,ive got a 97 honda valkyrie with 59K on it.i bought it out of a salvage yard in 2003 with 700 miles on it for $4000.its a great bike.another $250 in parts.check out www.cycle trader.com for a Valkyrie in youre neighborhood.you might have to pay $6500-$7500 for a good used one.or if you are mechanically inclined you could go the salvage yard route. but dont forget you are getting a 6 cylinder engine with 106 horsepower.

I bought a Yamaha Roadstar 1600. Beautiful bike, low miles, limited edition. Looks, sounds, feels like a Harley but doesn't have the Harley price. Check our craigslist for used bikes. Don't be afraid to look outside of your town. I am from New Orleans but live in Atlanta. Looked at craigslist New Olreans, found bike and went down and got it. The same bike in Atlanta would have been substantially more in price. Good Luck

What do you all think about a suzuki volusa , I saw one this weekend and thought a first glance it was a harley, fat boy. Actully it was a long glance. But dont know anything about the quality or performance.

HI: I have a C50T ( volusia ) in 05 the name changed and suzuki went with fuel injection. I have 20k+ haveen't had any trouble so far. Weight 180 5'10" 57 yr old and still up rite.. The bike is very dependable. Easy to get around in traffic and parking lots. Very stable if the wind and in heavy traffic. I ride with guyswith much biger bikes HD,s , Victory's , Gold wings... I have never been left in the dust some of them have tired . We have alot of fun with each other bitchn and moanin about each others stuff. The bike has preformed very well. I was going to get a bigger bike. I figure it runs with the big boys why spend the *** I also get very good milage it is around 48-52 depending on who I am to run with. On the other hand there a lot of very good bikes out there. The down side of the C50 It is a very noisey bike due to the solid lifters. The timing chain also makes some noise. If you have a wind shield that just amplifyes the noise. It could use a 6th gear. I allways want to shift one more time. You kinda get use to it. The engine gets buzzy above 65mph. IT just keeps on going. The good thing is that the rev limiter is at 7500rpm. You can run the bike to around 108 or so. IT is still very stable at that speed.. I road a lot of bikes before I got this one IT just fit me best it handled all I have asked of it and just keeps running.. I am haveing a blast on this thing. Try to get to ride on several bikes before you buy The bike that fits ME may not work for you. Look at the Kaw and Hondas also very good rides. Thats enought.... scruffy...
