I'm thinking about buying one of these as my first bike and i was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad knowledge or experiences of this bike or similar years. Thanks.

I bought a 85 shadow vt750c as my first bike last summer, it was amazingly well cared for. 30,000 miles and has been a really great bike. Getting 38-42 Mpg, not sure about yours but the high compression on this engine demands premium gas... and unlike the new shadows they claim this thing is 68hp!? not bad for a 750cc, the new ones are only 45hp. So I love it and it easily keeps up with my buddy on his 1100.

The v45 Magna is very nice (smooth and fast). However all the v45 Magna 1st generation suffers from the oil cam problem so make sure to apply the oil mod (see Magna Owners of Texas).

Not sure if you have looked into a Kymco Venox 250. A cross beween a Honda Magna (almost indentical specs) and what some HD riders like to call a "mini V-Rod"
I picked up and 04' for a ridulous price; no one beleives me with the shape it is in. Just something to ponder

I recently purchase a 1999 VF750C. I love every inch of the bike. I've learned that the bike was not made for a beginner rider. Because the engine is very responsive and will try it's best to pass you off the back if your not holding on. You'll have fun with the bik. just be cautious with it and learn the bike and how it handles. You'll have years of enjoyment if you take it easy. I think you have a little more HP then what you were told. Check this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Magna

I just purchased and 84' V45 with 15,000 miles. I haven't had a chance to actually ride it yet, since its winter and we have way too much snow. But I got to sit on it when I was home over Christmas brake. I'm not all that tall, and I am very comfortable on this bike. This will be my second bike. Good luck on choosing a bike.

There is also a hard to find in good shape V30 Magna-it's got more power than you need. I just saw one blow away a Honda VTX 1800. Depends if you fit on the bike. It's more of a muscle bike than a cruiser and not real comfortable for longer trips. At least it has a V4 engine not a stupid Vtwin that everyone (including myself) rides.

I rode a 1984 V45 all through the 90's. (after '84 import tariffs on 750cc bikes caused Honda to turn the V45 into a 700cc er). Great bike...lots of power (80 hp). Lots of fun. Never had any major mechanical problems with it. However, it IS a lot of bike for your first bike. Unless you're an experienced rider (borrowed or rented bikes a lot?) be sure and take it real easy getting to know this little powerhouse.

I have just purchased a 1984 V30 500, this bike is (as a young kid would say) wicked fast. 4 carbs , liquid cooled, showroom quality, all original. One problem, it's a lil to small for a 6'1 person.(originally bought for wife but to powerful). Q? Is there anyway to beef up the suspension? or just get a bigger bike? new to forum.. thanx for any suggestions
