I have a 200 Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom. I am having issues with the starting system. I have already replaced the stator & a relay & it's still not getting fire. It cranks but no fire? Anyone have any info that will help? I have a Clymer Manual & I just ordered the Yamaha service & repair manual.
The primary coil resistance reading is normal (4.1). If my secondary test on my OHMS meter is over range for what the manual calls (Manual calls for 10.1 - 15.1)my reading is 22.0 would my coil be bad? since the reading is above the specification range on the table in the book?

i have a 2005 VStar and i'm having the same problem. I measured out both coils and finding the EXACT same thing as you. I made the mistake of ordering the new coils, but that was not the problem. I had considered it was the CDI (ignition unit behind the battery), but no bike shop around can test it. trying to get with a friend that i can switch it out with to test on his bike. Was laso told that the timing might be off from the Halifak sensor (hope i spelled that right) that lets the CDI know to send the voltage to the right plug at the right time. You might want to check that out too!!!
