I am new to customizing my bike, but I intend to do all the work myself. I am enjoying that part of the process at least, and my hubby thinks it's hot. LOL: So, my question stems from doing something possibly stupid and ending up not being able to fix it yet. I was going to change over my grips to an aftermarket product. I took the bolt out of the end of the handlebar to change the grip out and now I can't get it to screw back in. I have wondered if there was supposed to be a stationary nut that has fallen and I won't be able to fix it without taking everything off (which I don't know how) and tipping the bike over to get at the nut at all. Any advice on this would be helpful!!! Please!

HI; I think you removed too much of the bar end. What kind of bike? Have you got the rubber dampner out of the bar? This is what the cap is bolted to. On most. This piece keeps the handle bars form vibration making the hands numb.. If you have the rubber still inside the bar you need to get it out. The nut is attatched to it. Assemble it just a thread or two then install into the bar. Hope this helps. This is how it is on my bike..scruffy

I definitely removed the rubber part and the nut is gone, never was attached from what I could see. There was (in this order) a bolt, the end of the handlbar, a metal tube that goes through the rubber dampner, and two washers. No nut. There simply isn't something to tighten into now. I don't know if it would be beneficial to get a nut that fits that bolt but then I am not sure exactly how to attache the whole thing either. An HD rider told me to tip my bike over and shake the handlebars to get the nut up there, but then there still would be no way for me to stabilize it to screw into the thing. Also just exactly how I am to drop and shake a 500 lb bike on my own is still on my mind. It would be entertaining for others to watch to say the least. I have an 2006 M-50 Suzuki by the way. ~L~

HI Do you have both sides off? If so take some 1/4 " cable or maybe #4 wire and shove it through one side to the other. After you get the nut out use some super glue to attach it to the rubber. Then you should be able to preassemble just enought to be able to shove the weight end in and tighten.. Watching you shake the bike would be entertaining ![]() IF you can't get anything in the handle bars you can just remove them and tip one up and the nut will fall out.. Have fun ..scruffy

No, once I took off one, I didn't have the guts to go doing it again. I don't understand how puting cable through will get the nut out? There is a square "hole" inside and it seems that the nut is supposed to be located on the other side, anchoring the bolt that is holding the dampener and the endcap on? Still trying to figure this one out!

sounds to me that the inards expand when you tighten the bolt and contract when you loosen it. try putting everything back togther, slide it in nthe bar and then tighten the bolt. what kind of bike are we talking about? and yes, you're hubby is right, watching a woman work on a bike is hot, LOL!!! just had to get the sexist pig shot in there!!!

Well this is what I did. I tried to get the part at the dealership, but that wasn't available. So I went to home depot and bought a 6 mm nut and put that on the rubber piece that is used to tighten down. Super glued it so it won't happen quite this way again. Then I put the whole thing together the way it started out and spun the nut on the bolt a few times to get it started. Then we slid everything together and tightened down the bolt. EVerything is good to go now. Thanks everyone for your help in figuring this one out. ~L~

HI; The bar is hollow. The nut is not suppose to come off the bolt. The bolt should be backed off just enought so that you can wiggle the end cap out. Some times this is hard due to the fact that the rubber sticks to the bar. The answer to the question is kinda YES. I will try and find my service manual and get you some pix. OK scruffy...

When I took it apart I didn't know that, so the nut completely came of and fell off. All my fault really, now I need to figure out how to take the grips that are there off and put on then ones that I want on there. They are the Kuryakyn Iso grips by the way.
