Last Year I bought a 2001 V1100 Classisc w/28K. The bike was well taken care of, runs great and is a ton o'fun to ride. Just before I bought it "full" maint was done. Valve adj, carb syn, oil/filter change, etc. I was planning to do the next oil change myself (althought a local independant mech quoted $100 so I am tempted). Also both the rear and front suspension feels a little "mushy". The guy who had it befor me was about 160 lbs and I'm pushing 210.
I would appreciate any advice or what I should "expect" from your experiences.

If the bike was well taken care of, you can bet that the owner did all his own work on it.
Get a Clymers manual and learn to do your own service. Sooner or later, the mechanic just won't have time to do every little thing exactly right. In all probability, you're unlikely to ever find a mechanic in a dealership who does have that much time on his hands. Besides, the labor costs are rediculous.
Once you have all the routine maintenance tasks down pat, you can start doing other things. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you won't understand why anyone bothers to pay for any kind of road service, when it's easier to simply carry a tool pouch on long trips :-)
regards, Joe
