What will the total cost be if I want to buy a cruiser($3500)in the USA and import it to South Africa.I am new to cruisers and import. I'm looking at a 400cc with the best fuel consumption. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

Suggest you talk to a local freight forwarding company that can also act as your import and customs clearing agent. Their fees are something you can negotiate. As for shipping, you have a few considerations... 1) Who will crate and pack the bike for export? ...a good freight forwarding agent arrange this can do this for you. Shipping a vehilce of any kind is not something that just anyone can do...there are shipping restrictions with regard to fuel in the tank and lines as well as the expertise for crate and packaging services. 2) Will the bike be containerized? Consolidated or shipped LCL (Less than a Container Load)? These elements will affect your total price as well. 3) Where is the bike located? How will it get to the nearest sea port? Again, both are cost drivers.
As you can there is plenty that goes into your request for a price. For comparison, I used to bring 20 foot containers into Kansas City, MO from Shanghai, China for about $6000 net of packing and local drayage costs. Not sure if that will help you at all.
Again, best bet is to talk to an experience international freight forwarding company.

Good luck with this import. I just imported a C50 to the UK from oregon. Did not pay for transport as i used our Company's 40ft containers bringing goods to us. This saved me $2000 straight. You can try the attaached link I guess they will be happy to give you a quote. www.eurousa.us When my bike arrived, I had to pay "Import Duty" of 6% and VAT on top. Had to get the bike road legalised for the UK which meant disconnecting the always on amber lights and leave indicators. Had to add a side light, i went for a 5w bulb inside the main beam (had to drill a bit) but the whole job was rather easy. This certificate was about $180 in GBP equivalent. Then i've got to go to another office to get the UK registration sorted out and tax the bike. That's another $200. I am nearly there....May be South African authorities are less demanding with US imports....you are soon to find out.
