84 Honda Magna 700 won't start

I bought an 84 Honda Magna 700 and everything was going fine and the other day it stalled and all I hear now is the solenoid clicking. I have not received my manuals yet so I'm not sure where to start trouble shooting. When I hit the start and the solenoid clicks, the headlight dimms also. I charged the battery but still nothing, I might get the battery checked today. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

Good news, I received a used starter and installed it today and we are on the road again
