We're planning on a trip from Norther NY as far south as New Orleans. We'd like to catch the Mississppi about half way and follow it South. Anyone got any suggestions?

look into traveling the natchez-trace parkway. I think it starts in nashville and ends in natchez MS. Short ride from natchez to new orleans.
