I just purchase a Progessive spring for my 2008 vstar1100 silverado. I am searching for a Instruction to put it on.
If any Special Tool require to remove the old spring and put the new one on. Any information will ge gladly appreciate.
In addition, can it be done without dealer ship. I have contact local Yamaha dealer, but I was told 3-4 week before they able to get to me. Sound like they don't even want to touch it.
hint.. I am a Auto Mechanic, and done many strut with spring, but new to Motorcycle. Don't want to remove the shock and find out that it need certain special tool.
Thank you, jupiter66

Answer to my question for anybody that might running into the same situation.... The spring has to be compress with a Yamaha special Spring compressor. A good Certify yamaha Dealer that have the spring compressor should be able to remove and put the new one in less than 5 minutes.
My Trial and error.
1. I have tried using severals different Auto spring compressor, and it is too big. it won't work.
2. I went to the Merced Local Yamaha Store, and I was told at first that the spring was not replaceable, and finally I took the shock to them and show all I need is a spring compressor to comppress and put the new spring on it. I was told at that time that they were not setup to work on spring. I start to feel hopeless since I bought my bike for this store. I was thinking about buying a spring compressor $$$$$. Not feasible
3. I went to a Merced Motorcycle custom shop, and their were very nice, but their spring Compressor won't work on it either.
4. I when to a Merced local Harley-shop, and I was told the yamaha spring is too big to fit on the harley spring compressor that they have.
5. contact Yamaha Customer relation, and was told that Yamaha 99 in madera will be the closest that they should be able to work on the spring. I call them up and confirm. I drove about 40 miles to the dealer, and it took less then a minute to actually remove and put the new spring on it. From starting off paperwork and I am leaving the dealer took about 10 minutes. cost only $41.00.
Not bad considering buying a new spring compressor will be more.

Thanks: The information is good to have. I am always fixing on others bikes. None of the dealerships want to do anything but the stock repairs. Thanks again...scruffy
