okay....I know this question has probably appeared before...BUT...I'm 5'4" 150 lbs...looking to upgrade from my Honda VT600 to the 850cc range. Does anyone have a suggestion for a really well handling cruiser that has a low seat height? Some have recommended the Triumph America and the HD Sportster Low.

Hi most of the yamaha VStars are very low. I am 5'4" and I have one. It is the lowest stock machine I have sat on. For even better control I lowered it one inch. Its an 1100 and it fits fine

Suzuki C50 Boulevard series has a seat height of 27.6 inches, which should also work fine for you. Good luck. Cheers. Herb.

I'm 5'5 175 lbs. I upgraded from a Yamaha 650 to a Yamaha Road Star 1700 and have not regretted it for a moment. Actually, I found it easier to ride than my 650 - strange but true. So depending on your self confidence of your ability I would suggest trying bikes from 1100 up to see how comfortable you are. If a dealer won't let you demo ride one, find another dealer that will. You gotta try it to really know. Of course, if you have a accident during that demo you may end up owning the bike. So be careful. One thing that I did do is that I found a used bike with low mileage and saved the depreciation on a new bike. I've never had any problem with the Road Star and have ridden it 17000 mi. so far. Good luck!

The Honda Shadow 1100 sits nice and low to the ground and was the bike I almost bought but because I was 20 years removed from riding I went with a Shadow VLX Deluxe. Try on the Shadow and see how it feels.

Why just get a bike you like and get it lowered. That's what my friend did. She's like 5'2" or something. Pricing on that will vary depending on who does it around your area. If you have a hookup, then you're all set. No need to worry.

The factor that contributes more to ease of handling than anything else is the trail. The longer the trail, the more top heavy the bike will feel, but the more stable it will be for straight line riding at highway speeds. The shorter the trail, the lighter and more maneuverable the bike will feel at slow speeds.
An excellent example of that is the Kawasaki VN800B. It is a full length cruiser with a seat low enough for even my 27" legs. If you know someone who owns one, ask if you can throw a leg over it and feel for yourself. While it feels much lighter than it actually is, most short riders need to put risers on the handlebars for good posture.
regards, Joe

I am picking up a 2007 honda sabre 1100 tonight from my dad. Can i ask how you lowered your bike 1 inch, is it easy to do? I ask because I am 5'5 and can sit flat footed but would like that extra inch just to feel safer. Can you help me out?
