I just read an article written several years back on a Yamaha Road Star Silverado and I have some questions regarding mine that I was hoping some of you might be able to shed some light on.
The article states Yamaha claimed MPG for the 1600cc at 38 to 49 with an average of 43.1
I don’t even seem to come close to this. 30 mpg seems to be the beast I can get out of it. The tank says it is a 5.2 gallon tank and when I reach empty on the needle indicator as well as seeing the fuel light on I can only get a little over 3.5 gallons in it.
I’m getting about 100 miles less per average range than the stated 228 miles in the article and the bike is in great shape and very well maintained with no engine mods other than the a larger (than stock) air filter.
I’m confused as hell and any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

You should check out www.roadstarclinic.com. Bunch of information over there and a great bunch of guys that will answer questions pretty quick. Sounds to me that if you are running aftermarket filter that lets in more are, maybe you need to rejet the carb, or if that was done, dial in the jet settings.
The guys at the clinic have alot of experience with the carb. I am getting anywhere from 41-54 on my bone stock Road*. Good luck.
