From what I'm reading here, many of you have no problem with just motorcycles be stopped at check points for safety reasons. I guess you wouldn't have any problem with anyone dressed in leather being stopped while walking on the street. You know those bikers. Many have outstanding warrants and past criminal offsenses. We must protect honest citizens from this type of people. Sorry, unless ALL vehicles or people are stopped, I will never agree with this type of law enforcement.

If the police are going to stop people based on clothing, they can start with those little hip-hop gangsta-thug pants-dropping eyesores.

I agree with some of what both sides of this issue are posting. We do give up some of our personal rights if we allow targeted/profiled stops to be made. However, if it happens and you have nothing to hide, please cooperate and be respectful. There is nothing wrong with attempting to affect change in a law/practice you feel is eroding your rights. Otter, I encourage you to continue to fight to protect your right to privacy, while complying with the orders of the police officer who are just doing their jobs. NavVet

If you are 'profiling', it has to be for a valid reason. The TSA doesn't profile, so, 3 years ago, my 75 year old mother was stopped at the gate for having cuticle scissors. Now I grant you, she was a RN, and may have actually possessed some secret knowledge to cause injury to someone's finger if she was still at her prime.
It is profiling to set up roadblocks where drunks are known to drive (near bars at closing time, I got stopped even though I wasn't at any of the bars, just passing thru at the wrong time... I was annoyed that they gave me a ticket for an inspection that was 1 hour out of date,it was a legal ticket, but, it should have been a warning). It is profiling to stop someone in known gang colors for a squarish bulge off the hip.
I'm just saying that if there's a group of people who do things that are illegal, and there is a pattern, it might be a lot better use of the limited resources that we have to go after them, and not harass the elderly to avoid the appearance of profiling. That's just dumb.
