No idea about the Vstar 650 custom. I do have the Vstar 1100 custom and so far no problems.

HI Kimbec, I just bought a used V1100 Silverado, 2004, miles were 880, for $5500...heck of a deal. Just rode it home Saturday, so no chance to really check it out. Gotta a question for you if you dont mind...I need to add a luggage rack and highway bars before hitting the road for some day or overnite trips. Do you have a good website for both Yamaha and Aftermarket accessories? I've been to Superstore, Whitney, Bandit, and some others, but may have missed some better ones. The problem I'm running into on the rack is I'd like a Cobra for the V1100, but all the web ads indicate it's a custom fit, and requires a Cobra bracket and backrest, which I dont have - mine's the stock Yamaha rig that comes with the Silverado. Have you run into this type of situation yet? Ditto with the engine bars...Silverado comes with the rider floorboards (which I dont like), and it looks to me all the aftermarket bar kits wont fit due to the boards extending too far forward. I hate to take the bike to the local Yamaha dealer and paying their stock and installation prices to get these 2 items. Thanks in advance, Ray in GA

It is an excellent bike! I am smallish at 5'6" and 158lbs. This bike is just the right size for someone my size to say 5'10". Now having said this I will tell you I own a Honda Shadow VLX Deluxe because I love the look of that bike so much. Either bike would look great in my garage though. One more thing to add. I get anywhere from 62 to 65 mpg on my Shadow where my best friend gets around 48-53 on his V-Star 650. Both are great bikes though. You won't go wrong.

Check out RickRoushAccessories.com for Yamaha parts. Unless you want to change out sissy bars you're pretty much stuck with Yamaha luggage racks. I think I found one that fit the OEM sissy bars but I wasn't too fond of the looks of that one.

V-Star 650, we have the Classic but the mill is the same. Absolutely no reliability problems with the bike but we did have issues with high speed vibration. Cruising the interstate the engine was shaking a lot. According the the fine folks over at 650ccnd.com the best fix for that was adding performance. A hypercharger and a full set of V&H pipes fixed that problem. So much smoother now. If you don't routinely run 65 & up then you probably won't notice the vibration at all. Now the 650 gets going very quickly as and added benefit.

Hi, I noticed your message and I am having the same problem with vibration at 60-65 miles an hour with my 2007 VStar 650 Custom. It feels that she is screaming at that speed. So, you telling me that all you did was installed a hypercharger (What brand?) and a set of V&H pipes. Are the new V&H pipes very loud? What part number? Do you have pictures? and by putting a hypercharger did it affect your gas mileage? Better or worse? Please advise anyone, I am very new at this.

My wife has had her VStar 650 Custom (in black) for over a year now (2000 miles) and absolutely loves this bike. She is 5'2" and it's a perfect cockpit for her frame. She cruises at 60mph without any complaints. Life is good.

I bought a 2001 V-Star 650 Custom 4 years ago and have had no problems with it at all. Bought a 2006 1100 Custom earlier this year and am enjoying it as well. The reputation for reliability these bikes have seems to be well-deserved, nothing other than scheduled maintenance needed yet.
