My 1300 clunked also when I first got it but the clunk went away. I think the shock oil needed distributed throughout the shock. The clunk stopped without me doing anything. dude

I would stongly suggest you switch over to synthetic oil, I just did a oil change on my Honda 750C2 bought a few months ago. It made a BIG difference in the performance of the bike and the noise level coming off the engine. I sort of balked at the price, over 8 bucks a quart but difference in performance is very noticeable.

I have a 2007 1300 Touring and also have the clutch noise. I went in yesterday to make an appointment for my 8000 mile service and mentioned the noise and after some checking the dealer called me back and said there is a fix for the clutch. It will be done under warranty at no cost to me. They have a new clutch kit ordered and will call when it comes in. So if you contact your dealers Yamaha will fix it if it is still under warranty.

All the trany noise is the norm, the fix for the clunk is take the weight off the front end, remove one fork cap on top of the forks and fill it to where fork oil is just entered the hole at the bottom of the inner tube of the forks, then put cap back on and do the other side. It won't take much oil and us caution. The engine noise is probably the valves, they are tricky to get to so, deals don't want to do them unless they have no choice and then they will probably be noisy. I adjust my own and have better luck. Go to adjusting valves made easy, or the one I use is CycleHippie.com Good Luck

I also have the 1300 and have all of these noises as well. It's obvious some dealers know about this problem. Could someone send me some information that I could forward to my dealer about the Clutch issue. This drives me insane

I bought my 07 vstar 1300 in April from a dealer with 1800 km's I have the same noises 1. clunk from front end - loud when hitting a city bump so I will try the additional fork oil 2. clutch rattle 3. some sort of valve/tappet noise. Overall I love the bike - good power, comfortable and can't wait to get some summer touring done - my better half loves it too - so I can live with the noises now that I know these aren't unusual for this bike. Three questions: 1. I have a heavy clunk from 1st into 2nd - anybody else have this? if I'm real smooth and make a conscious effort to pull the clutch in as far as possible and smoothly and gently shift, it is reduced but every 4th or 5th change into 2nd is still a loud clunk and I worry this will develop into a future problem. I do alot of city driving - stop and go sometimes to work so up and down 1st to 2nd alot 2. I'd like to reduce the wind buffeting - ( I have the small windshield) anybody have a contact or suggestion for buying lowers for this bike? any comment on this? I bought a cheap set that clamp on the front forks but since the forks are tapered they can't be mounted properly. - a waste of money. 3 Do I really have to spend 250.00 or more for replacement passenger floor boards? thanx

Hi everyone , this is for everyone that has a 2007 v star 1300 , the noise you are hearing is the clutch assembly . Yamaha has not made it a recall , if you bike is under warranty the dealer is suppose to replace the clutch and final drive assembly with the 2008 version which was updated . For the ones without warranty , there is suppose to be a Customer Satisfaction Warranty , but some dealers are refusing to honor it .

Yamaha will replace the 07 clutch assembly with an 08 assembly under warranty, and this will help your clutch rattle problem; it's not a recall, but dealers are instructed to replace clutch for owners who complain about noise
Front end clunk -- I called customer service at Yamaha headquarters and told them the soft front end springs were clunking and were a safety issue; it's a common issue with the 07; Yamaha replaced my front forks for free and they are stiffer, handle like they should and don't clunk
you can also replace the front fork springs yourself with progressive springs -- get them from Shane at Phat Performance Parts
Solutions to buffeting: --Buck's Lowers, custom-made by Buck and they work -- he's a great guy to work with and they cut down that flow of air under the windshield that hits your chest AND/OR
--drill out the top bolt hole on the Yamaha windshield bracket making a slot so you can tilt the windshield to a more aerodynamic angle, back by about 5 degrees to reduce buffeting on the top of your helmet OR
--replace OEM windshield with National Cycle windshield and lowers; NC windshield is raked for better airflow than Yamaha's
See owner experiences, installation pictures, contact information, etc. on all these at http://1300tourer.com

I've got all those noises too, but that's not what is bothering me now. I have a 2007 V-Star 1300 that I bought new in May of 07 as my first ever bike and I love it despite the added noises.
My problem now, 2-1/2 years and 40,000 miles later, the bike has developed a clanking noise coming from the tranny. I only seem to hear it above the noise of my Cobra exhaust while I am in 1st gear and a little in 2nd gear. Strange thing is, I don't normally hear it until the bike has been warmed up for a while, then shut down and restarted a short time later. The clanking stops when the bike stops rolling, even if I have the clutch pulled in and the clanking is relative to the speed of the bike, however not a in perfect intervals as would be the sound if a gear tooth was broken.
I do all my own work and I adjusted my valves a few times already too. Not too bad of a job the second or third time doing it.
With this problem I thought it was probably the clutch. I took it out and it looks fine. Friction plates are about half way worn, Clutch housing and boss only has minor marks from the friction and clutch plates, so I have determined that it is not the clutch.
I have noticed that the Main axle (Clutch shaft) while in first gear has a lot of backlash, pretty close to 70 deg. before the dogs on the gears touch. 2nd gear has about 45 - 60 deg. of backlash. 3rd, 4th and 5th have about 30 - 45.
I have maintained this bike myself and always changed the oil every 4k - 5k miles and the past two oil changes I have used Mobil-1. Once I started using it, the clutch felt so much smoother but when the clutch plates engaged, there was no slipping. Very nice improvement.
Does anyone have any idea what the backlash in the gear dogs should be in each gear on the clutch side or even the drive pulley side? I do not want to be taring apart my engine to find nothing wrong in the tranny. A friend of mine told me I should check the drive pulley side first before I go further. there is some gear ratios that have to be considered and I don't see that from the clutch side.
