It was a great spring in Central CA. Then it broke a 100 yesterday. It looks like it will be over a hundred for the next few days. It is drier heat than back east but I'm still cold blooded from riding through the winter.
I sweated like mad and got a headache within 3 minutes. I'm going to get a full mesh jacket this afternoon. Any other recommendations? Helmets? Gloves?
Personally, it was easier to scrape the frost off the bike in the morning before the sun came up than it is to ride in that heat. I really wasn't prepared for that...
Thanks ahead of time.

I've been looking at mesh jackets online though I know nothing about them. It gets way hot here in SC with the humidity and wet bulb factor or heat indicies.
Did you buy one? If so is it cooler wearing as in less heat? I'm very curious as I plan to buy a free flowing jacket with protection for work commutes.

I live in Florida and it is hot here...it'll be 92 degrees today with the heat index of over 100 (very humid). Mesh is definitely the way to go. I ride year round here, and at a certain point, you have to put mesh on unless you are going to ride around in shorts and flip flops (yes, it happens all of the time). The mesh jackets let the air flow right through and most of them have armor in some fashion for protection. It is not as cool as not wearing a jacket, but you'll be protected. I wear my mesh jacket and kevlar jeans in the heat here and it is not bad (unless traffic comes to a dead stop). Other than that, I use a half-helmet in the summer and leather gloves with plenty of mesh on them to let the air flow through them as well. The rest depends on how much you want to spend. There are several higher end jackets or you can go someplace like jafrum.com and get one that is inexpensive. Definitely go with the mesh...but stay hydrated.

Another thing you can do is to wet a T-shirt and wear your rain jacket over it. It acts like an air-conditioner. I did this when I rode across South Dakota on I-90 and it was 116 degrees. It worked great.
