My friend has a bike that the idle is high enough that he can let the clutch all the way out without gas and it walks without dying.

My question is: is this normal for all bikes or does he just have a high idle set?

I had an 800 Vulcan that I could do that with (stock), a Savage 650 - same, intruder- same.

The trick is to let the clutch out slowly and work thru the friction zone and let the engine come back up on speed. If the clutch grabs, you stall.
If you think about it, human legs generate about .5 to .75 hp at best, and that's enough to move a bike. Even at idle the motorcycle is generating more than that.

Doesn't mean he doesn't have a high idle,
