I am looking to buy a new motorcycle. I currently have a 2006 C50T. I love it but am looking to take a step up. I like the Yamaha Royal Star Venture. It has loads of comfort shaft drive but does not have EFI. I am also considering a Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic, or even an Ultra Classic. It has loads of comfort features, and EFI. It has a belt drive instead of shaft drive and is a little more expensive. Most of the riding will be going back and forth to work. I plan to take some short trips. Under 300 miles with my wife. I would like some suggestions about making a choice. I like all the comfort features of the bikes, Cruise, stereo, luggage, etc.

Buy a Yamaha Stratoliner and never look back...no stereo etc... but MUCH better handling and performing bike than the Venture, especially for a daily rider. Venture is a very top heavy bike as well- lots of folks drop em'. Harley doesnt compare IMHO, but they they are good Baggers if that's what you want. If I was doing the bells and whistles thing, would go w/ a Honda Gold Wing myself...

From your post, I'm guessing you're looking for a more touring rig. A couple of models that pop up are(and I've ridden): Kawi Nomad 1600 (EFI), the Yamaha Tour Deluxe (not efi, but heated carbs). Road Kings are a little more, but should be looked at. The Victory Vision looks great, haven't ridden that one.
I rode the Venture with the wife on the back, and it was just too top heavy. It made me nervous. I also haven't ridden the Ultra Classics, but, I suspect they ride well too.
If you want full boat touring, there's always the GoldWing, or the BMW K1200LT. Those suckers will just knock your socks off. The BMW has an electric center stand.. push button, and it pops it's self up.

Some of it is just looks. I like the look of the classic cruisers. I am sure the BMW and Goldwing are great bikes but i do not like the looks as well. The looks of the Victory Vision are really out there. I have considered buying a metric cruiser a little larger than what I have (C50T 805cc) and dressing it out myself. I carry a laptop back and forth to work and need somewhere to lock it up if I stop along the way. Thats why I am looking for a full dressed bike. My wife also likes the seats on the tourers.

So, you're gonna need hard bags on the bike. While there's others out there, I know Scootworks has several sizes of locking trunks. http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/page=partstrunk.htm/SID=PUT_SID_HERE
They're also available for a lot of bike sizes.
If you don't like the look, think about a magnetic tank bag. Laptop goes in, if you stop, you lift it off, flip the flaps under, and bring it in with you (10 sec to attach or remove). They're generally padded too.
Good luck on the hunt.
