I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm looking forward to being a part of the forums.
I am also new to riding and just enrolled at a basic rider course which I will be attending in 2 weeks.
Since I have never rode before do you think a 2006 HD XL1200C (1900 miles) would be to big for me to learn on? I am 5-10 215lbs. I got such a great deal on the bike that I had to buy it. My brother only wanted me to take over his payments and he only owed $6500 on it. Thanks for any input.

Hello,
I am also new to the forum. The course will provide you a 250CC something. I just read an article about bike size for beginners. It said depending on how the course goes and your former riding experience, maybe on dirt bikes. If the course was a breeze or shakey? Do you feel comfortable ? I wish I had bookmarked that article. A good point is that you won't out grow the bike as happens with many folks who start out too small.

I do think the article said the quick learners were suited in the 700-900CC class.

There aer a lot of smaller bikes out there cheap, if you could swing both for a couple months and then get on the HD.

I rode dirt bikes as a teen. Had a Kawasaki 454 LTD for a summer after taking the safety course, which I out grew in about two weeks, but never moved up. Twenty years later, I am back on a Vulcan 800 which is plenty big and powerful. I could see moving up within a year if I stick with it though. Maybe, for me an 1100 or 1200 at the most. I am about 6' and 227 and 48. Leg strength, the rake and the seat height mean a lot to me as a newbie. Balance comes with experience. I bought my bike from a tiny lady who had moved up to a HD 1100 Soft Tail. Good luck, I'll try to find that arcticle.
