i got a 82 virago 750 from my wifes exhusband. the wiring is all hacked up and the bike doesnt start. my friend and i can only get it to crank over but not start. the only way to get it to crank is to put a jumperbox on to starter and bypass all the other wiring. any help is good.

HI; You need to get the service manual. One with a wiring diagram. That's the only way to figure out where the wires go.  The only other way is to trace each wire and match the colors up. Then hope nothing got shorted out when the hack job happened.. scruffy..

You can bypass almost all wiring on this bike to see if it works by running wires to the starter and the coils if you have a good battery it will at least tell you if it runs

I despretly need your kind of help!!!I have done everythind to try and get another bike for the past few years, but living to get through the year without oweing I had to get a "fixer upper"I was GIVEN a 83 750.I even heard the bike run. After it was given to me and I went to pick it up I loaded a rolling frame and moter with three five gallon buckets of water and parts with the wire harness all but gone.I have a diagraghm, the cdi box works on anothr bike, stator tests good,pick-ups test good, coils are good, and rectafier.I have tried and asked for so long I had to walk away for weeks at a time. Please tell me how to wire from the bat through the switch to get the plugs to fire!!!I will name my first born after you.Thank you for your time.

My advice...
If you can get it running, great
DUMP the bike
You can use the money to buy anything you like.
It's baggage, attached to the ex.

It will never be anything else. It will always remind her of him.

kwazy, that's called a 'basket case'. A 'fixer upper' would have been fully assembled, even if it wasn't running. The same advice given to the original poster over a year ago, applies to you. Get a shop manual and wire the bike according to the electrical drawing. If you don't know enough about electronics to read the electrical drawing, you need to get a local friend to help you. Electrical help at that level is far too complex to get over a forum, unless you expect to spend the next year asking for advice on every single detail.

regards,
Joe
