Aside from the impact on the employees at the plant and larger economic issues...this brings up the question of just where Honda intends to take their motorcycle division. Some rumors have been going around that Honda intends to get out of the motorcycle business altogether. The fact that they are consolidating assembly of big bikes to one facility with more capacity does not necessarily mean that they intend to continue to manufacture bikes. The facility could be used for any number of things other then building Goldwings and VTXs.
Any thoughts?

So, Your comment is all business like. If you want to talk about this tell me what you are thinking! Is it a good thing for Honda motorcycling for production to be moved out of the US? Why? Are you more or less likely to buy a bike because of where it is built?

Where do they sell goldwings? got to believe the US is the main market? Japan is too small and Europe has got to be BMW country.
will they discontinue the goldwings? will parts and service be affected? will prices go up (or down)?
I have a 95 and am thinking about a 2007. the plant closing has me wondering about the future of the goldwings, nice as they are....

They actually had an article about this in the latest Red Rider magazine that just came out. They aren't really closing the plant, and yes Honda will continue to make bikes. They are moving all of the operations back to Japan. The people at the plant will not lose their jobs either. Honda is converting the factory to making cars I think. I can't remember exactly what they are doing with it, but it is something like that. It was a very good article, and I wish I had it in front of me. I will post again tomorrow, and let you all know for sure.

The Honda VT1100 is a motorcycle engine used in numerous bikes in the Honda product line since its debut in 1985[1]. Measuring 1098 cc, the engine is a 45 degree twin-cylinder with liquid cooling. It provides around 50 horsepower (37 kW), depending on application and tuning. Though known for simplicity and reliability, this engine has recently lost popularity in favor of larger bikes such as the VTX 1300 / 1800 and Valkyrie. 2007 was the last year the VT1100 engine was produced. ___________________________________________________ Carhartt Outerwear investment real estate
