Any opinions on the 08 R3 touring model? Would like to get a copy of the magazine test.

I like the looks, at least in the pictures I've seen. I'm glad they got rid of the oversize rear tire. I belong to a R3 forum and replacing that tire when it wears out too soon is a major concern. Some are using car tires! I also hope they have cruise control as an option. I think it should be standard on any motorcycle calling itself a tourer. And I really don't understand the HP ratings of the retuned engine. It is rated at 106 HP which is (gulp) 34 HP less than the original version. Seems like a drastic drop just to get 4 more ft. lbs. of torque (which it didn't really need).

OK, so the original Rocket III was not the belle of the ball in the looks department. However, it was (and still is) a highly original motorcycle. Introduced last year, the "Touring Classic" added much needed long-haul appeal, with bags/windshield/sissy bar etc. I waited with much anticipation to see the *NEW* Touring 2008 Rocket, as featured in this magazine. I have to be honest here - didn't Honda build this bike 10 years ago and pin a Valkyrie badge on it? I am very under-whelmed by the appearance of this new bike and disappointed that Triumph seems to have succumbed to the "Americanisation" of their flagship bike. I do not (yet) own a Rocket III, however I will be actively seeking the (sure to be discounted) 2007 Touring Edition of this iconic machine. Sorry Triumph, I know that this bike is designed for "mass market" appeal - but then if we all followed the crowd, we'd all be riding V-Twins....

I agree with you. I have an '06 Stratoliner, but I've had a love affair with the Rocket lll since it came out. My last bike was a Valk, and I liked it, but I wanted to do something different that wasn't a Harley like all my buddies have. The 'Liner' has been a great bike so far; nice looks, good power, nice features, etc., etc., but it's not unique. It's a better version of a Harley, but it's a copy. That in itself leaves it lacking even though it out-performs the Harley in evey category. The Rocket has had huge appeal to me because it's unique, but the newest touring version reminds me of the Valk. I wish they could have put some nice removable bags, removable windscreen, and luggage rack on the original model. The skinnier tire, the single headlamp, the smaller tank make it seem more in line with other cruiser wannabee's, not a bike that is completely different from the masses. The torque is great, but did they have to lose that much hp?
I will check out the touring version when it hits the floors, but I don't know if it will be compelling enough to make me switch!!!!

I just purchased a new 3-touring-black and New England white and I feel very good about the purchase after testing 3 Harley's, a goldwing, and a vulcan. My last 4 bikes were three different Valkyries, and an Ultra Classic and this bike is hands down smoother, quick enough, much more comfortable to ride, and a much needed improvement in looks, handling, enjoyment level. I am 6'3" and over weight but this bike fit me better than any of the ones I tested this year with the Goldwing being the worst, I love Honda's but they are catering to the shorter smaller rider and have pushed anyone above 6 foot into the fairing. I really wanted the Goldwing and they have runined them in my opinion as my 91 was much more comfortable. I added $2000+ in options to the Rocket and should have it home next week, it is fantastic, great Job Triumph!

I have had an 08 Rocket III Touring for almost 2 months and have over 2000 miles on it. I LOVE IT!!! Only problem is with the digital tripometer read. I have ordered a new one through the warranty, but it's taking a while. Initially, the dealer said they could not reproduce the problem. B.S. I just had to not let it go. Rich richard_fishbein@yahoo.com I have a few questions if anyone else has the Touring model. Rich
