I have a national cycles wind shield on my XVS1100 custom that is giving me grief. when i ride between 80 and 120 klm's i get a lot of turnbulance around my head to the point it gives me a headache . i have adjusted the thing to all extremes and in between. does anyone have a solution before i sell the thing.

I feel your pain.  I had a HD 2006 softail standard with a removable HD windshield.  I tried everything from laminar flow deflectors to cutting the windshield shorter. Nothing seemed to help. After discussions in various forums I found that alot of the turbulance comes from below.  Put your arm across your chest and see if this changes the turbulence.  I just couldn't find a way to stop the lower airflow on that bike so resorted to trashing the windshield and riding without.  I now have a HD 2008 Ultra Glide and am back riding with a windshield.  Hated to sell the bike, but got tired on the long rides.  Good luck.  You are not the only one having that problem.

i tried the arm across my chest and that work so i then taped some cardboard cut outs on my forks just to try and it worked . now i am making some deflectors as i can't get any in the next week in australia.

Glad that worked.  I forgot to caution you to be sure and not cut off the air to the engine with the deflectors.

I noticed you stated you cut the windshield shorter?  How did you do it?  I'm very small and am having difficulty getting the windshield I want short enough.  Cutting it would be an option for me if I knew it could be done successfully.  Any pointers?

Thanks

I followed the tech tips suggestions for cutting down the standard height windshield on my Deluxe. Worked like a charm! I did not use MEK since I do not want to store such a volatile chemical at home, so I used nexus scratch remover (the heavy duty stuff) and my new edge is actually smoother than the stock edge. Good luck!
