I'm told Louisiana has the worst roads in the country. I've seen some of them in the northern and middle part of the state and they weren't all that bad ... I've seen worse. I-10 was mentioned specifically, but I don't want to do the interstate, anyway. Anyone know a way from east to west that is passable?

I LIVE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA (LAFAYETTE). IT IS A MAJOR CITY ON I-10. THERE A LOT OF INTERESTING PLACES TO RIDE. THE ROADS ARE OK ALBEIT SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO GET USED TO IN THAT THERE ARE NOT ANY SHOULDERS ON THE SECONDARY ROADS. MOST HAVE DITCHES THAT CAN BE DEEP. GAS IS CHEAP. PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY. FOOD IS GOOD. WEATHER IS GENERALLY GOOD (EXCEPT DURING HURRICANC SEASON IN EARLY SEPTEMBER).
YOU CAN SEE THINGS UNIQUE IN THE U.S. THERE A GOOD # OF MOTORCYCLE SHOPS IN THE EVENT OF A BREAKDOWN. SOME THINGS TO SEE ARE THE CAJUN AREAS IN ACADIANA WHERE I LIVE, NEW ORLEANS IS ALWAYS INTERESTING. GO TO EAT, DRINK, AND BE MERRY. GO TO THE PLANTATION HOMES THROUGHOUT THE AREA (FROM THE MISSISSIPPI BACK TO SW LOUISIANA). YOU WILL SEE A CULTURE THAT DEFIES EXPLANATION. COME AND ENJOY!

I-10 is a problem in more places than just Louisiana. It was made from concrete back when they weren't so careful about matching things like slab height and crown. Today, most secondary roads are made smoother than I-10 was. I expect you'll find most any of the main roads to be satisfactory. I don't recall thinking Louisiana's roads were worse than any other state's, back when I was routinely riding through that part of the country in the mid 80's.
regards, Joe

I hear tell you might need some waterwings to navigate the roads there in the near future
