hello my dad is really computer illiterate and he doesnt feel the need to learn how to use forums so yeah...i am helping him with this...so bear with me if my grammer is wrong...
OK! so the issue is when he drives down the street and he gases on the accelarator...he says he feels some power lost and he hears backfiring come from the exhaust....any tips or suggestions would help! THANKS!
also its a 1998 650 V-star Yamaha!

Might need a tuneup....its a bike that has carbs so I would probably dump some "Seafoam" in the tank. That will clean out the jets and shine it up on the inside. You can usually find seafoam at autozone.

Is the bike new to him? I also have a VStar and have mistakenly ridden with the choke partly open even just a bit can really lug the engine and cause backfires. Make sure his choke lever is all the way to the right.

HI; I would pull the plugs and replace them. If he has run with the chock out he may have fouled the plugs. Make sure that the chock is off. Check that the carbs are tight. If they are loose this will cause a lean pop out the exhaust....scruffy...
