I was looking for my first bike and had settled on a HD Softtail...until I saw a Black Raider and sat on it at a local Yamaha dealer.  I bought it two days later (14,200 out the door w/cover, tax and a 5 year warranty!) before I even had my permit.  I've had it now about two months and have about 1000 miles on it and am wondering what took me so long to buy a bike.  I'm interested in getting some pipes (shorty downsweeps-cobra?) and have heard people talking about a license plate mod?  Does anyone have any good info on nice loud pipes for this bike and info on the license plate mod?  Thx!

ANYONE FOUND A REV LIMITER ELIMINATOR YET. I DID DRAG PIPES, A MAX AIR KIT, AND DYNOJET POWER COMMANDER AND NOW THIS BAD BOY HITS THE REV LIMITER WAY TOOOOOOOO FAST.  I KNOW IT HAS A LOT MORE TO OFFER I CAN FEEL IT, AND I WANT MORE. IF ANYBODY HAS A SUGGESTION I AM A TECHNICIAN SO I AM WILLING TO MODIFY THE ELECTRONICS. I HAVE A COUPLE BUDDIES THAT RIDE SUZI  M109S AND THE REV XTENDER WAS EASY FOR THEM (JUST A RESISTOR ON THE GEAR POSITION SENSOR) IS IT THAT EASY ON THE RAIDER AS WELL??? I WOULD LOVE TOO KNOW!!

i purchased a blue s in jan,the fist at ny dealer. its awesome. youve got to check out the new pipes at pacific coast star .com ive got the yamaha drag pipes which was the only thing available at the time. ill be selling my yamaha pipes to help recoop some of my cash but whoever gets them will appreciate the deal. i love this bike ,you must get the dealer to increase your rev limiter to 6500 rpm after your 1000 mile service and breakin

pacific coast star has a new control box that allows you to control your fuel mixture timing advance as it relates to the fuel inj.on my last post it is possible to have your rev limiter increased to at leat 6800 rpm but i do suggest a tach. mine is set at 6500 and its all i need and im 275 lbs. with a air inj kit from k-n and the control box the only m109rs youll see will be behind you.

cobra speedster swept pipes are great, I finally got mine in august. I ordered the Fi2000 fuel management system it sounds and runs great. The last tank of gas I was getting over 50 mpg.

I also did the same thing, I got the swept and the Fi2000. This bike sounds great. I get alot of heads turned. And with these pipes you keep the "chopper" style that yamaha was trying to lean towards as they designed the bike.

here are some videos of my bike

Been looking at the Raider for some time now and FINALLY bought one... Was an 08 with 267 miles (yup, thats true)...Raider S Red with yamaha drag pipes....
Now I have been riding since I was 13, and had everything from Harleys, to indians, to crotch rockets, and since I went with Yamaha in 97, I have never looked back... Now Im 61 years old and "LOVE" this bike... she is a real sweetheart...
Now being new here, I wonder if anyone can give me websites and info to buy parts, manuals, performance info, etc...and even keep in touch, if you have one, by mail, to relate ideas and info...
My intent is simple.. people that own this bike (I feel), will have the funtime of their lives...
Any and all info would be appreciated, and Thanks in advance for the help... ps. Im a vietnam vet, disabled, and ride daily if possible... plan on doing it till they bury me...

Does it bother anyone that the Raider is Air cooled? Does it have an oil cooler?

Maybe engines are doing better these days with heat but it bothers me.

Thoughts?

Simply put, you don't buy a raider if you are worried about "gas mileage".  You buy this bike to simply rip *** up!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I would stir things up a bit.  Hell NO I'm not turbo charging my Raider.  That is insane!!!  I have to say though, that bike is AWESOME.  Better than any sport bike I ever had.  All I am doing to mine is the Cobra swept exhaust, passenger floorboards (for her of course, I hope they don't clutter the looks) and thinking about the LED signals and brake lights with a liscense plate upgrade.
