Hey guys, I am trying to get things together for building my first bike and am wondering the pro's and con's of cable actuated and hydraulic actuated transmissions/clutchs. Why would I use cable over hydraulic and vice - versa?
And does the same thing go for brakes as well?

Take some courses, read some books,look at some bikes, find a mentor with infinite patience, do any or all of the above, because your questions betray the fact that you know very little about cycle mechanics and that successfully building a bike from the ground up, is way beyond your current skill set. Now to answer your questions. Once you make an engine/trans choice the method of clutch actuation is made by that choice. If you use disk brakes you will have to use hydraulic actuation. if you use drum brakes, cables are in order

Wow ted kinda harsh. I knew almost nothing about bikes and was still able to make a good bike for myself. Of couse it wasn't a ground up rebuild but it's not really that hard to fix a bike. Just a little bit of patience and a lot of sweat. Next time try to be nicer to someone asking for advice. It's easier to take honey than vinegar right?

Besides. If you end up with a preference on clutch, that will in turn drive the transmission choice.
Mad Bomber I've ridden both, and most hydraulics work better than cable. Less bind points from input to destination. I rode cable for 37k,then bought a hydraulic (wife's latest bike is also) and the clutch pull is a lot lighter on hydraulics, even though the engines are several times more powerful.
