In this month's issue there was an article about trailering a bike. My street bike has yet to be on a trailer and I just want to be clear in the event of an emergency. I trailer my dirt bikes all the time and when I load them I use a block between the tire and fender to compress or load the suspension without bottoming out the shocks. By compressing or pre-loading the front shocks to maximum compression without that block, from what I understand, the front shocks or fork seals would eventually blow. In the article this month the author states, "The more you load the suspension during tie-down, the less it will compress during towing. (OK This I understand, that's why I use blocks) He goes on to say "Some folks claim that ratchet straps are more effective at maximizing compression..." So do I or do I not have to worry about wearing out or blowing my front shock seals by pre-loading to the max when securing my street bike? Tips or Ideas? Thanks
