Hey

Im new to this site, and Im hooked!...

Anyway Im looking into buying a Virago 535 and taking a trip from California to southern Montana next summer ('08). Round trip is about 1800 or 1900 miles...good idea?? any tips/suggestions welcome.

No...I don't know how experienced a rider you are, but you may want something with a little more weight and stonk, not to mention a windshield. Then there is the issue of the seat...Ride as many bikes as you can in the class you want to buy. Try the Vulcan 750, 800 and 900. They are a lot more bike for the buck. You could throw in the Suzuki Volusia 800 and the C50T. Have fun.  

Have to agree ponch,i did a 2000 mile trip on a virago535,was comfortable,easy to handle, but since getting a Magna vf750 would have been better to do it on that i think.
