This post for those familiar with the area...

I'd figure Ortega Highway...Santiago Canyon road...Carbon Canyon road...

I like riding PCH too but way too much traffic.
Anyone know any beautiful places to ride without much traffic?  Good curves?

The good roads are best on weekdays, when few other rides (or cops) out there.

The Iron Butt Association is always out on tours.  Maybe they would have some good advice.

There are a couple of curvy roads around PV (Palos Verdes) off of PHC make a Left and that road should take u to a nice curvy road, you will see Malaga Cove, great Private beach right by there!!

I am not real familiar but I did fly in and stayed in Santa Barbara for a week . Rented a bike from EagleRider and took a few different routes
My favorite by far was the Route 154 especially the Old Stage Coach route through Los Padre Ntnl' Forest , fabulous fun great scenery.

It's been a few decades since I was in that area...

I used to delight in riding up in the mountains, when I was in San Diego. Practically every road was a great ride.

If you're a little farther north, night rides from Barstow to Needles can relieve any job pressure you might be dealing with and don't overlook riding up to Bear lake and the glaciers. Actually, just about any ride in the San Gabriel Wilderness will be enjoyable. The most well known road for riding would probably be the one going up to the observatory, just north of L.A. That can be a real treat coming down through the curves.

Come to think of it, I don't recall ever finding a paved road in southern California that *wasn't* a good road for a ride, once I got out of the city :-)

regards,
Joe

Head up I-5 North to the Frazier Mountain turn off.  Go Left and follow the road all the way over to Hwy 166 (keep bearing right at forks).  At 166 go left.  If you stay on 166 you'll come out on Hwy 101 near Santa Maria, turn Left on 101 and head back to L.A.  Otherwise turn L on 166 then turn L on Hwy 33.  Follow it all the way to Hwy 101 near Ventura.  Either way is a fun ride.

Another good So Cal ride is to take I-10 East to Redlands, then Take Hwy 38, it's the back way into Big Bear.  Nice mountain road.  In Big Bear go around the lake and take the other road back down to San Bernardino (follow signs).  Eat at BJ's in Big Bear, great food, biker hangout.

If you want to know where just about EVERY good road is, log on to www.pashnit.com.  It'll cost you a few bucks to join but trust me, they've ridden just about every road in Calif. and have them mapped.
