Tomorrow I'm expecting the brown truck to bring my newest helmet, a Suomy Spec 1 Extreme. I received one about a week ago in size large which I always wear in Arai or Shoei but in Suomy, I could barely get it on over my ears and then only with some pain,so I returned it to Sand Hills Power Sports for an xtra large. The irony of all this is I had surgery on my ear yesterday and won't be able to get the new lid on to even find out if it will *** A bit of advice to anyone contemplating buying a Suomy; they seem to run small, so be sure to measure your head two or three times inorder to get an accurate reading. If the size is on the border between sizes on the chart get the larger size. Several helmet dealers have size charts on their web sites to aid in choosing.

Apparently the word edit thinks I used an obscenity considering whether the new helmet would be the correct size: F- I- T was the excised word

I finally could not stand the thought of my new Suomy just sitting on a chair any longer because of my ear surgery, so I taped the ear back as close to my head and tried slipping the helmet over the adhesive tape. Eureka! It went over with just a slight coaxing. This helmet is the ultimate in protection, I think, even surpassing the Shoei's which I have worn for years both in the dirt & on the street. It has superior padding in the facial/cheek area, which is lacking in many helmets. The venting, I think, will also be superior and appreciated in the AZ summers. Another plus for those riders who may be in the saddle for extended periods is the very light weight of the Spec 1R; just a hair under 2 1/2 lbs (2 lbs 7oz.), according to some reports and 3.2 lbs according to others. Now all I have to do is wait until the stitches are out of the ear so I can give the Suomy a road test
